What's happening at FUMC

Dear Friends,
I hope you had a joyful Thanksgiving with those you love!  I continue to be thankful for you, the good and faithful people of First United Methodist Church, as you seek to be Christ’s hands and feet in the world! Thank you for building each other up, encouraging each other, and being there for each other in good times and the not-so-good times  This is what families should do; thank you for being a part of the family of Jesus Christ!

A special thank you to all who helped put up Christmas decorations the past two weeks, here at FUMC!  It’s beginning to look like Christmas, because of you!

Our Angels are here!  If you would like to make an abused child’s Christmas a little brighter, kindly stop by and pick up an angel from the Angel Tree sponsored by the Santa Rosa Kids' House.  Each angel has the age of the child and a list of suggested items that they would like.  Kindly return the unwrapped items in a bag with the angel tag attached to the Penfield Center by no later than Wednesday, December 13, and we will take the items to the Kids’ House in time for them to be distributed to the children.

Children’s Advent Calendars Are Here!  Parents, if your children were not in worship yesterday, please see Miss Debbie.  She has Advent calendars for you and your children to use during Advent, which were prepared by the United Methodist Children’s Home.  Blessings as you teach our children about preparing for the arrival of the Christ child!

Our Advent Study begins this Wednesday, November 29 at 11:30 a.m. in the Penfield Center conference room.  Bring your lunch (or not) and we will examine how we can remain faithful in times of crisis, using the faith of Joseph betrothed to Mary as our basis for study.  We will discuss Chapter 1, A Carpenter Named Joseph this week.

Don’t forget that tomorrow is the deadline to let the church office know if you plan to attend the UM Men’s Christmas dinner, which will be held on Sunday, December 3 at 6:00 p.m.

Friday our Hand Bell Choir will present their annual Festival Ringers in Concert in our sanctuary, beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Each year this concert is uplifting and puts us in the Christmas spirit.  We hope you will be here with us!

Sunday, December 3 is the First Sunday in Advent!  We will have special liturgy celebrating the occasion with the children participating in the Hanging of the Greens during worship!  Between the two services, the United Methodist Men will treat us to the best pancakes and sausage this side of the Mississippi!  Join us in fellowship hall, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

December 3 is also the deadline to order poinsettias in honor or in memory of a loved one.  Kindly complete one of the forms in the narthex and drop it and your check for $15 for each poinsettia in the offering plate.  You may take the poinsettias home after worship on December 10.

UM Men's Christmas Dinner! Tuesday, November 28, is the deadline to make your reservation with the church office for you to join the UMM and their special guests for our Christmas Dinner. It will be this Sunday, December 3, at 6:00 p.m. at The Cutting Board.

You will not want to miss our Chancel Choir’s Christmas Cantata, “The Wonder of the Questions of Christmas,” on December 10.  The cantata will be performed at both services, which will also include a sermon, “Are You Prepared?” as we lift our voices and sing praises to the King of Kings!

December 11 is the deadline to call the church office to RSVP for the United Methodist Women’s Christmas Luncheon at The Cutting Board.  It will be held on Thursday, December 14, at 11:00 a.m.

I hope you will plan to come to the Children’s Christmas Musical, “Special Delivery,” which will be held on Wednesday, December 13, at 6:30 p.m. in fellowship hall.  Our children and musicians have been working hard!  Won’t you support them with your presence?

Christmas Eve is on the Fourth Sunday in Advent this year.  We will have one morning service at 10:00 a.m., which will have different Scripture, sermon and liturgy, from the 3:00 & 5:00 p.m. candlelight communion services.  The Hand Bell Choir will be in concert thirty minutes prior to the afternoon services.
