What's happening at FUMC

Dear Friends,
What a wonderful turnout we had yesterday for the Youth Dessert Auction!  Monies are still being counted, but it appears that because of your generosity in preparing and purchasing desserts, the Youth raised more than $600 to help fund their activities throughout the year!  We are grateful to Youth Director Terry Wasden for organizing this event!

Thank you to the Rev. Gerald Shelton for bringing the good news to us yesterday!  It is always a delight to welcome Gerald back to the pulpit at First United Methodist Church!

Last night at Charge Conference, District Superintendent Dr. Timothy Trent praised our church for the varied ministries you faithfully carry out throughout the year!  Well done, good and faithful servants!

This Sunday is Children’s Sabbath!  The theme this year is “Moving Forward with Hope: Love and Justice for Every Child.”  Representatives from the United Methodist Children’s Home will be our special guests and our Youth will assist in leading a litany especially written for Children’s Sabbath.  We will examine how well we are responding to the plight of children in our world.  Our sermon will be based upon Matthew 22:15-22 and is entitled, “Show Me The Money.”

Our Stewardship Season begins this Sunday!  Stewardship Chairperson Hilda Cox invites all to participate in a church-wide Bible Study on Practicing Extravagant Generosity.  It will be available in all the Sunday School Classes, beginning this Sunday.  Those wishing to come at night to the study should call the church office to reserve your book.  If there is enough interest, I will teach another class on Wednesday nights, beginning November 1, at 6:00 p.m.

Trunk or Treat is right around the corner!  Debbie Lewis has requested donations of small cans of soft drinks, a few bags of apples, and small bottles of water, which will be given as prizes for some of the games she is planning.  Feel free to drop them by the Penfield Center during normal business hours.  Trunk or Treat will be held on Wednesday, October 25, beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Bring your car decorated for Halloween and treats for our little goblins and ghosts!

The United Methodist Men’s Chili Cook-off will be held on Thursday, November 9.  Tickets costs $5.00 for as much chili as you can eat (or until the chili is gone).  Judging of the pots will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the eating of chili will start at 6:00 p.m.  Men and women are welcome to enter the contest.  Please let Don Moore know if you plan to bring your specialty!  This is the major fund-raiser for the United Methodist Men’s projects during the year!
